How do I properly heat the rapeseed pillow?

Microwave

Place the pillow (preferably without a cover) on a clean plate and place it in the microwave for up to 1 minute at 600 watts. If the pillow is not warm enough for you afterwards, you can warm it up further in 10 second steps. Always knead briefly in between and check the temperature. It shouldn't be too hot for babies and children.

How do I set 600 watts for my microwave?

1. Check the maximum wattage your microwave has. You can find the information about this either on the device, in the operating instructions, or you google the model type.

Most microwaves have a maximum value of around 800 watts

2. To set a lower wattage, you have to reduce the percentage power. To do this, you calculate what percentage 600 watts is of the maximum power.

I have compiled the most common values for you here in the table:

Maximum wattage of your microwave 700 Watt 800 Watt 900 Watt 1000 Watt 3200 Watt
600 watts in percent% 85,7% 75% 66,7% 60% 18,8%
3. Since you probably cannot set your microwave to the exact value from the table, you should always choose the next lower value. For example, if your microwave has a maximum output of 800 watts, you would have to set it to 75%. But if you only have the choice between 80%, 60%, 40% etc., you would take 60% in this case.

Since the performance is of course somewhat lower due to the lower number, it is possible that after 1 minute the pillow is not as warm as you would like it to be. Then you simply put it in again at the same percentage level for 10 seconds and slowly feel your way until the pillow has the warmth you want. It's best to note how long you warmed it up in total so that you can do it right next time ;)

If for some reason you cannot select a lower wattage, then take the next possible one and reduce the time.

Oven

Place the pillow (preferably without a cover) on a clean plate and place it on the middle rail of your oven at 100 ° C for about 15 minutes. Then check whether the pillow is warm enough for you. If not, just put it back in the oven for a few minutes. It is best to knead briefly in between and check the temperature.

If you had the oven on before, you can simply place the pillow in the oven while the temperature is switched off. This saves you extra energy ;) Please check the warmth of the pillow again and again!

What if I'm on the go and have neither a microwave nor an oven?

You can also place the rapeseed pillow on a warm radiator and warm it up. Here you have to try out for yourself when it is the right temperature for you.

How can I use the rapeseed pillow as a cold pillow?

Put the pillow (without cover!) In a freezer bag and press the remaining air out when closing the bag so that it contains as little moisture as possible. Then you put the bag in the freezer for at least 1 hour. Since you will probably need the cold pack spontaneously and urgently, it makes sense to simply have it permanently in the freezer and take it out when necessary.

If you want to use it for cooling, you simply put it in the cover and it is ready for use immediately. The pillow gives off cold for at least 1 hour. Then you can consider whether you want to continue using it as a cold or warm pillow. Both are permanently possible, you should just make sure to let the pillow cool / warm up to room temperature until you use it again for one of the two purposes.
